Why Go to Andaman

Andaman isn’t just a bunch of islands scattered across the sea, it’s an emotion. A world away from the hustle, here the sun rises early, the water is clear as glass, and the air smells of salt, coconut, and quiet.

Here, time slows down. You sit under a thatched roof, sip a tender coconut, and watch the waves come and go like they’ve been doing for centuries. Whether you’re walking barefoot on soft white sand or diving into turquoise waters, the Andamans welcome you like an old friend you never knew you were missing.

Must-Visit Places

Radhanagar Beach

Radhanagar Beach is often listed among the top 10 beaches in Asia, and for good reason. This long, crescent-shaped stretch of powdery white sand is flanked by lush tropical forest on one side and the crystal-clear blue sea on the other. It’s perfect for swimming, relaxing, sunset photography, or just taking a long walk.

Elephant Beach

Elephant Beach is famous for its vibrant coral reefs, shallow waters, and range of water sports. You can snorkel just a few meters off the shore and witness colorful fish, anemones, and corals. Popular activities include scuba diving, jet skiing, banana boat rides, sea walking, and more.

Kala Pathar Beach

A peaceful, less crowded alternative to the busy beaches. Kala Pathar Beach is known for its dramatic black rocks (hence the name “Kala Pathar”) contrasting with golden sand and aqua-blue waters. It’s a perfect place for watching sunrises, picnicking, or enjoying solitude with nature.

Endemic Species

This area is a paradise for nature lovers, bird watchers, and anyone looking to explore dense, untouched forests. The park is home to several endemic species like the Andaman wild pig, Andaman wood pigeon, and a variety of butterflies.

Giant Robber Crabs

The northern part of the Andaman Islands, especially around Diglipur, is home to the Giant Robber Crab, also known as the coconut crab. These are the largest land-living arthropods and can crack open coconuts with their powerful claws.

Lush Rainforest

The Andaman Islands are home to some of the oldest and most biodiverse tropical rainforests in India. Covering over 80% of the land area, these dense jungles are green, vibrant, and alive with rare flora and fauna, many of which are endemic, meaning they’re found nowhere else on Earth.

Cellular Jail National Memorial

Historical Importance

The Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani, is a colonial-era prison built by the British in 1906. It was used to exile and imprison Indian freedom fighters, revolutionaries, and political dissidents who resisted British rule. The jail is a symbol of the brutal oppression of the independence movement and the immense sacrifices made by the nation’s heroes.

Some of the most notable freedom fighters who were imprisoned here include:

  • Veer Savarkar

  • Batukeshwar Dutt

  • Barindra Ghosh

  • Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi
